Council meetings are held the 2nd Monday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
 
I am moving to Slater, whom do I contact to set up my utilities? 

The City of Slater provides water and sewer service to residents.  A water/sewer deposit is required.  The deposit is $100.00 and is payable in the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, 101 Story Street before service may be connected.

 How are my water/sewer bills figured? 

Residential water/sewer bills are figured by cubic feet of water used.  The minimum water and sewer billing is approximately $ 40.00.  The average water and sewer bill in Slater is $80.00.  See the services tab for price details. 

Bills are mailed on the1st of every month.  Bills are due and payable at City Hall by midnight the 15th of the month after the billing date (or by midnight of the first business day following a weekend or holiday).  There is a 24-hour drop box for bill payment in the entryway of City Hall.

 Late penalties of $15.00 are added to each bill not paid on or before the due date.   

Whom do I contact for garbage service?

         The City of Slater does not provide garbage service.  
         You will need to schedule service with a local provider such as:

What do I do if I notice a streetlight is out?

         Call Alliant Energy at 800-822-4348 and give them the location of the streetlight that is out or contact city hall or  click HERE to report a street light out.

Are there any programs available for recycling? 

Slater has a voluntary drop-off recycling program.  Cans may be returned in the chain link area at the corner of Hwy 210 and Tama Street.  Proceeds benefit Slater Parks and Rec.
  
Is there a place I can dump brush and yard waste?
The city will collect tree limbs several times from June - October and after major storm events.  Watch for announced days on facebook, the chalkboard and under the Current News tab.  Otherwise you may burn organic materials on your own property.
 
I am building, remodeling, adding a fence, etc.  Do I need a building permit? 

Permits are needed for the construction of ANY permanent structure or structural change on your property including fences.  A permit is also required for demolition.  

Permit applications can be picked up at City Hall.  Fees vary based on the building project.

How do I rent the Log Cabin? 

Reservations may be made for up to one year in advance.  All reservations can be made by calling city hall at 685-2531.   The Log Cabin is located at 3rd & Benton St. (305 Benton St.) in Nelson Park.  The Log Cabin has a full kitchen and holds approximately 70 people.  It rents for $35 / half day and $50 / full day.

What is the phone number for the pool?
The number is 685-3334 and is answered daily during the swimming season between the hours of noon and 8 pm (7 pm on Saturdays &Sundays).  More pool information can be found by clicking on the Recreation tab.
