State of Disaster Emergency Declared for Story County

Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a Proclamation of Disaster Emergency for Story County, along with Jasper, Osceola, and Polk Counties, following the severe storms that began on June 29, 2026.

The storms brought damaging winds, severe thunderstorms, and flash flooding, resulting in significant damage to homes, businesses, and public infrastructure.

The proclamation:

• Activates the State of Iowa's emergency response and recovery plans.
• Authorizes the use of state resources to assist affected communities.
• Makes eligible residents in the declared counties eligible to apply for individual disaster assistance programs through the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
• Allows state and local agencies to coordinate services and share information to help residents access available assistance.
